Choosing the best intimate lubricant

First of all, you should know that lubricants are not only used when our body's natural lubrication is not working.

Water-Based Lubricants

Silicone-Based Lubricants



Because they are silicone-based and have a different formula, they take longer to absorb than water-based lubricants (which you may need to reapply after a while if your skin has already absorbed them). This is their main advantage and they are particularly suitable for anal sex which requires more lubrication, or for sex in an aquatic environment.

They are not compatible with silicone sex toys but are compatible with those made of metal or glass, for example. They can be used with a condom, as long as it is not made of silicone. If you choose to use this type of lubricant, it is best to use a latex condom.
They are denser but still have a soft texture. The disadvantage of this type of lubricant is that they are more difficult to clean, so be careful on the sheets (or the car seats, or the sofa, or the kitchen counter, or the dining table...). They can leave stains on marble, wood and textiles, and you may need to take a shower to remove them.

Oil-Based Lubricants



This type of lubricant is compatible with silicone (so it can be used with sex toys), its effect lasts a long time and it can be used under water, but it is not the best for anal sex although it is very lubricating, as it can cause infection.

Oil-based lubricants can damage latex, so it is not recommended to use them on condoms or diaphragms made from this material. Unlike water-based lubricants, oil-based lubricants can change the pH of the vagina and cause infection. However, they are best used for full body erotic massage.
